Akron postcards: The Big Snow

Here's a look at yesterday's gridlock on the way home. It took me almost two hours to pick up my kids and get back (usually it's a half hour, tops). At one point I was stuck on a street that doubles as a frontage road--the highway was shut down--for twenty minutes, in the same place. I got brave and drove on the shoulder. Otherwise I might still be there. By the time I went to bed (10:00) we had about 4-5 inches on the ground. Apparently there was some serious snowing going on last night.

This morning I woke up to the sound of thunder-snow. Here's a view of our front stoop and a nearby bush. We have at least a foot now, with 6-10 more inches on the way. I'm supposed to dine with a job candidate tomorrow night, and I really wonder if he's going to make it into town. Luckily we have enough people and animal food to make it through if we're snowed in all weekend. More pics forthcoming.
Your wint'ry friend, Mary B.

Eff this! As soon as it melts, I'm moving to the beach. I'll sell hot dogs and write poems or something. No midwestern PhD program for me.

Ha! I wouldn't know what to do with warm weather 11 months a year. All this suffering is good for me.

Where I live, we are not getting the Big Snow...yet. Instead, we got the Big Ice! Tonight, we are supposed to get the Big Snow.

Blah.

I just helped my neighbor shovel his driveway. I'm paying the price now. I think I need a nap.

Sara--my blog is confidential. There's something there. Maybe you're not looking closely enough.
