Let's hear it for the roo!

Total and complete excitement and much screaming last night, as my beloved Akron Zips won their first-ever MAC championship in a total nailbiter. I am so excited for the team, and for our university. We may just have to pack up and go to the Motor City Bowl and cheer them on.

Oh, and fyi, our adorable mascot is actually FEMALE (in case you couldn't tell from these logos), which is awfully rare and especially cool. Woo hoo go Zips!

The Chemic is neuter. More universal appeal that way. Plus no need to document lab accidents.

Funny--just the other day I was thinking about how I was always too chickenshit to light my bunsen burner, so you'd always do it. Retroactive thanks, Byf.

Isn't Zippy the cutest? Gabi sleeps with that beanie Zippy. Awww!

Sure, cuter than Freddie Falcon...but what about Frieda Falcon? How soon the prodigal forget their flying female fighting falcon.

I don't know what the IUP mascot is, but I use our logo--a giant bearclaw--to teach my students about breakfast pastries, so I think Julie wins this round.

But if I ever ditch English to teach a cooking class, we'll have a rematch.

Oh, hey Mary, how'd your Dad and The Frank do at the Zips/Golden Flashes game?

PJ--it was blizzardy as hell! I'm amazed they made it through halftime, though apparently that was plenty. I was not envious in the least!
