Pomp, circumstance.

I never went to any graduations after high school, so yesterday was a completely new experience, getting robed up in my regalia to represent the department at Commencement. Whoever the attending doc was at the hospital on Tuesday when I logged 7 hours in L&D: you were right, I did manage to make it through without giving birth. However, the wee lad is apparently quite large and will likely arrive within the next few weeks. Holy ropes!

At any rate, it seems like UA really does it right in terms of graduation ceremonies. Lots of chrysanthemums, all of the students getting to walk across the stage, etc. It was really strange seeing some of my students up there graduating, and I can only imagine how it will be when we graduate our first MFAs.

My RHINO amiga Jackie informed me that apparently I was a semi-finalist for the Morton prize over at Sarabande this year. Another one to add to the copious annals of almost. Felt rather clueless getting the news like that.

A shitty, rainy day for my birthday. Glad I don't read such things as omens. And besides, I like even numbers better than odd.

Happy birthday, and congrats on another 'almost.' They count, too.

Our little one will be a year in June. I can't believe how fast all of this goes.
