November postcard from Akron

I love this weather, especially because I know it isn't here to stay. It's already around 60 degrees, and didn't get too much cooler overnight. At first I worried because I had left a bottle of sherry (for my dad) in the car overnight, but it wasn't even chilly.

Last night I had a dream about creating and baking a homemade tofurkey. It looked much like a real turkey, but then I forgot about it in the oven and didn't want to check to see how badly I had burned it. Please do not share whatever metaphorical significance this may have.

I was apprehensive about my TFS of non-sim-subs, but good golly, it is really working out. Over the long weekend I am going to put together three more non-sim-sub packets. One of those is going to Anti-. The other two? A mystery. It's fun trying to tailor the poems to what the journal might want. I may handwrite the labels this time too. I sense a new set of superstitions brewing here. Anyone else have a submission ritual? CONFESSION: I used to kiss every manila envelope before mailing (and maybe I still do).

Yesterday Michael Dumanis, Robert Miltner, Dawson Steeber, and Sara Tracey read for my New Poetry class. I get goosebumps every time I bring a "live" writer to class. With four on the schedule, it was goosebump central. I especially enjoyed Michael's banter between and about his poems. It's funny how you can have countless conversations with a person and never really talk about your own poems. I was especially happy putting Sara Tracey on the reading program as an MFA. Woohoo!

Frank "The Colt" DePoole, NEOMFA student extraordinaire, is now blogging at DePool Hall. Go say hello and give him a link. Frank is also on GoodReads.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! May your tofurkey be supple and unburned.

Thanks for the shout out. Yesterday's readers were great. I could listen to all of them read again. Have a great turkey day.

I tried to make tofurkey once, and wound up at a curry house.

Your photos of Akron make me so homesick, especially at this time of year....

At least you didn't dream about a homemade tofurducken. I could get really Freudian on you.

Happy Thanksgiving, Phys, Greg, Gabi, Patent and Scotch!

Byf, no happy wishes for Ray? ;) Did you brine this year, plus sage and onions?

Steve, I can't kiss your envelope because the sub is electronic, alas!

Ray, too! (Blush.) Though I'm guessing he didn't savor much tofurkey.

If I fail to graduate due to an unpaid parking ticket or a faux pas or an underfed thesis, I will unexpectedly be in your "Unexpected" class.
