Thursday tidbits.

I know I have a million things on my desk right now, but this not-updating-blog-enough thing is getting me down. So here goes.

Happy stuff:

45 poems. 57 pages. Zero title. Okay, working title: Where We Went From Here. It's my new book manuscript. Of all the mss I've been reading lately, it's funny to have one by me in the stack. That's it, up there, as Jay R divided, sequenced, and conquered it.

Got an acceptance from New Zoo Poetry Review today. How awesome! I love it when poems get taken the first time they're out in the world (which happens more often when you don't simultaneously submit, I've noticed).

Stumbled upon this wonderful response to my Saint Monica poem that was recently featured in Valparaiso Poetry Review. Thank you so much for your insights! It's the best feeling when you realize that folks actually read your poems.

Weave Magazine, a new print mag out of my rust belt neck of the woods, is now taking submissions. Please check out their submission guidelines! I'm going to be sending them some poems asap. A few words about the journal:

Weave Magazine is a forthcoming literary print publication based out of Pittsburgh, PA. We seek to create a space for a cross-section of writers and artists of all walks of life to meet on the page. We celebrate diversity in both the creator and their works and strive to showcase both novice and established writers and artists. Submission Guidelines.

Some less-cheery stuff:

It has felt like Fall for the past week or so here. Sheesh! Between the weather and teaching five days a week, I am totally disoriented, and always behind.

Do you have room (and love) for one more pet? Adoptable pets in the Akron area desperately need a home! If you're thinking about an addition to your household, please consider adopting a shelter animal. There aren't many things that will make me consider a SIXTH cat, but looking at all of the homeless ones just melts my heart.

Sometimes I wish I didn't care quite so much.

Sometime this morning, if Sam cooperates, I'll play with the sequencing some more.

congratulations on your manuscript taking shape. I think that's fantastic!

Congrats, too, on the acceptances. However, I am not surprised. Speaking of that, you really should consider sending "Edge of Town" to Second Writes (www.secondwrites.com). They specialize in publishing poems already published, and they pay.

When putting together my mss, I stacked up all of the desks in my classroom one Saturday morning, and layed them all out on the floor. That was years ago, and I have since started over eight or ten times.

My current incarnation, what I hope to pass mostly intact through the critical eye of a very gracious poet, is 55 poems and 64 pages (without title and other incidental pages).

It's so strange that a chapbook offers little challenge in the order, but for this full length mss, I am completly lost.

I feel you, Mary. I currently piecing together my first full-length manuscript myself, roughly around 70 pages. It's quite challenging, laying everything out, trying to sequence it all, but also gratifying, in a sense, to see a culmination of work coming together. I'm excited for you!

Congrats, also, on your recent acceptances/publications. Looks like I'll be joining you in New Zoo, too.

Mary,
I'm right there with ya in the "care too much" column. We just took in a sixth cat...a stray Siamese kitten. Sigh.

What an exciting place to be with the new ms.! Oh, and kitten acquisition . . . a slippery, slippery (exponentially increasing) slope.

My boyfriend is trying to talk me into moving from our one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom. The only reason I am considering it is so I can get more cats.
