01 August 2008

So it goes with every season.

Thanks for all of the advice regarding broken poem machines. I'm shocked that y'all don't use beast as a verb! See definitions #5 and #7. Please note that this is not one of my own entries on Urban Dictionary. I do have an anonymous few.

If you prefer literary references, Alice Fulton uses beast as a verb in one of her poems. The first person to reply to this post with the title of the poem and the name of the book it's from will receive a free copy of Barn Owl Review #2 when it comes out in February 09. Let the hunting begin!

Today I was going up the stairs in the library and walking through a door and a woman ran right into me. Fortunately she did not propel me down several flights. But isn't it funny when you run smack dab into someone? What are you supposed to say if it's not your fault? Umm, hi?

Otherwise I'm starting August on a good note. It will be even better if I write a poem now. I have given myself an hour.

I love flipping my calendars to a new month. I have a lot of wall calendars. Four total, unless I'm forgetting one.

Do you think Fall begins in August (I mean this figuratively, not literally), or later? For me, Fall kind of begins August 1st. As in, there's no escaping the inevitable. As in, enjoy every minute before the real Fall kicks in.

I may go test drive a Toyota Matrix today. I always feel like I'm doing something wrong when I go test drive cars. Like I have to prove to them that I'm cool enough to drive it. I hate shopping, especially for cars. It's even worse than shopping for clothes.

I test drove a Matrix and felt like the windshield was distorted.

I don't think fall begins until October for me. Not at least until it's less sultry in the air.

Is it "The Gilt Cymbal Behind Saints" from Powers of Congress?

"I want to beast someone,"

When you said "beast," I was picturing you and Jay hooting and jumping like monkeys. That's a slang word that never made it my way...

I totally posted a new poem today. August 1st is the beginning of something good.

Angela wins the prize! :)

And gives me something to scrutinize in the Matrix, too.

Would you like me to mail it to you in Feb, or will you pick it up at AWP?

My mom reported that dad's had plenty of beastings lately. No wait!—bee stings. Yipes, don't want to make that mistake.

Wait...wait...something you wrote just rocked my world:

It's even worse than shopping for clothes.

Oh, B. I have been away from Ohio for too long.

PJ, I need you to tell me what sweater not to buy.

Oh, but I don't have an acceptance speech prepared... ;)

I won't be at the next AWP, so if you don't mind mailing it, I'd be grateful. Thanks, Mary!!
