Just a little curious. That's all.

Will you squeeze out another new poem (or story, or piece of nonfiction) before 2009 arrives?

Lordy, I am in the mood to write twenty new poems. As in: I spent an extra five minutes sitting on the floor in the hallway, just thinking. It's time to write. But instead I'm cooking and cleaning, and begging my kids to stop fighting, and pining, and being pensive, and sulking. I have also discovered that I love orange juice with great passion. I'm still eating 4+ clementines a day. Obviously I need to write a poem. It's hard to do so without access to my office at work, I'm sad to admit.

Perhaps the looming year will do me some good. What about you?

And yes, I will post some kind of keepsake, commemorative New Year's list (or whatnot) on this blog before 2009 arrives. I'm already thinking about it. I was thinking about it today when I licked a spoon for five minutes, and then set it down in the sink, and then walked out the door into the rain.

I've got three poems cooking right now, one of which is called "Jean Arthur at the Lincoln Memorial" -- Google if you don't know. :) These three are simmering in my brain, but will have to come out soon.

I must say I'm disturbed by this comment's word verification: dying.

Oh, dear...

I've got an idea so redonkulous it might be great: I want to write a series of poems about She-Ra. Perhaps I will get the first one going before '09.

Too much family time has set my brain a-fire. I wish I was writing, but these family obligations get in the way. Stupid holidays.

Julie: That's a great idea! I never think of writing in terms of "series." But She-Ra clearly calls for a series.

I wrote a poem yesterday. I seem to be able to manage one poem for every 2 books of poems I read. I rely entirely too much on the inspiration of others' writing. I want to write another soon.

I plan to submit on Dec. 31st, so I've definitely got to finish writing my submission poems.

I'm a bit stuck here, but I'll find my way out - I hope. I've got to write at least 2 more by '09, I don't have too much of a choice...

I almost always have something I'm trying to finish up at the end of the year. I seem to be driven at that time.

believe it or not the word verification for this post is actually a word: guess

I've got some poems percolating right now. I hope I'll get to them before the new year! I'm starting to get restless.

I'm actually in the middle of revising some poems -- but what I really need to get done is the pile of book reviews by my computer.

I always have several poems in progress in my notebooks, and I've been feeling (for the past couple of weeks or so) the sort of subterranean irritability that usually tells me a new poem (one or more) is pushing to the surface, so something may come out soon. But difficult to predict when with any precision.

Word verification is "combouse." Looks like it must mean something. Some type of pastry maybe. Or a way of preparing chicken. Braised chicken with lemon combouse and diced shallots. Mmmm, yum.

I don't know, Julie. Isn't She-Ra a little obvious? Doesn't Mer-Man cry out for a series of poems dedicated to his...whatever the heck he did?

I will!

Or rather, I just did.

I wrote 2 new poems in the last week.
I call it a direct side effect of time with my family.
Don't know if another one will pop out tomorrow or not, but there is always hope of that, right?

When I am MAJORLY stuck--wanting to write but nothing's coming--I take a few different poems that for whatever reason speak to me and do a combo of strange word-plays--re-writing them from last word to first, shuffling stanzas with the new re-wording, taking a phrase that seems strange and putting it alone on a separate piece of paper and then riffing off of it, whatever--and usually some strange things happen. Often too fragmented in the phrasings, but also very often a good start at something, whatever, I don't know...

and then somehow something of me scratches through.

What are your favorite "jumpstart that crackerjacked muse" tricks?

I hope you managed to squeeze out a few poems, after all! I totally understand the end of year goals, though--I wanted to finish a second draft of my novel, and I'm going to fall about 40 pages short. It'll be done within the week though, and that's close enough.

I just found your website for the first time, but I'll be back-- I'm loving your poems!
