Sometimes I'm just a little sweet.

I cook every night, but I rarely bake. So I just had to document the events of yesterday and today, which involved creating said devil's food cake and (homemade) peppermint whipped cream with Rainier cherry concoction. You don't know how many cherries didn't meet my exacting aesthetic standards for the cake. Of course I had to eat those so that I didn't accidentally mix them up.

The chaos of the last few days may be the cause of this baking. Friday Gabi's hives got so bad that I ended up taking her to the ER at Children's. She's okay--it's some kind of mysterious food allergy, apparently--but she looks like hell and is still itchy. They gave us a steriod and anti-itch meds. It was strangely fun, though, being out that late at night just the two of us. There was a baseball game downtown and a concert, and it was one of those thick humid summer nights where the sky feels so low. It made me realize I need to get out more. Maybe eat more cake too.

My son (the seventeen-month-old) gets mysterious hives several times a week from food. they go away within an hour, though.

The first time it happened we took him to the ER. He looked frightening.

Isn't it scary as heck?

I don't know what Gabi could've eaten, since she's the pickiest eater on earth. It might have been from too many strawberries. Ray, on the other hand, has exotic tastes like his Mama. He loves cubed avocado, chicken fried rice, and last night he wanted salad.

Poor G looks like a tiny teenager with a wicked case of acne.

Mary, nice bake, but where did you get such big cherries :) Same me a slice.

or, if I were speaking English this morning ... save me a slice. I hate Mondays.

I'll same you a slise (typo--just had to keep it), Keith! They're from the Giant Eagle over by Target. Yum!

Mary:

Just read your poems on Caffeine Destiny. The St. Monica poems are really going places.

M oldest son, when he was younger, had a strange reaction to carrots of all things. No hives, but he became very hyper and destructive. I hope everything works out for the best for Gabi.

It's a good think carrots don't make me hyper and destructive! I'd start eating them before teaching.

Cornshake, I was thinking of you when purchasing those cherries. They taste just as good as they look!
