For the past several years, poetry books and fiction books have intermingled on this wall. Today, however, something just snapped, and I had to finally make these shelves all poetry. No, I didn't have a fiction bonfire. I just moved them to the other side of my office. It's funny seeing all of my new books intermingling with the old ones. Luckily there's still space for all of the books that I have at home and keep meaning to add to this collection.
How do you have your books arranged? What's the strangest pairing of books, if you do it alphabetically? I think mine is Monica de la Torre right next to Emily Dickinson.
Oh yeah, and speaking of books, this Spring I will be transitioning into the role of Editor of the Akron Series in Poetry. Do you have any idea how excited I am? It is such an honor.

As for the shelving of my poetry books, I don't have any set method of organization. Weird pairings may include, but are not limited to:
My collection of Baudelaire, Rimbaud, & Verlaine sitting next to Leaves of Grass.
Ezra Pound's The Cantos next to John Berryman's The Dream Songs
Ted Kooser's Delights and Shadows next to Bob Dylan's Tarantula
Ooh, I totally know that feeling of contentment - the feeling of a dedicated shelf to poetry! Just one more landmark as the mistress of organization for you, young lady!

In theory, my system works like this: poetry, fiction, drama, & nonfiction on one set of shelves (separated by genre, then alphabetized), reference on another set of shelves (organized by topic, not alphabetized) and mass market and overflow on the last set of shelves. But most of the time, any book I've looked at recently ends up in a pile on the floor in front of all the rest.
My favorite alphabetical pairing? Biddinger-Bishop. : )
