Out of the blue.

Yesterday I was doing my usual frantic run-around-before-class routine, and noticed a newspaper clipping up at the front office counter. It was a review of my book in the Beacon Journal, of all things. What a funny way to find it.

Today's the last day of my MFA poetry workshop. It's really bittersweet, since it will be my last class with so many of our soon-to-be-graduates. This weekend we have our graduation readings for the MFAs. If you're an MFA, did you have to do a reading? I'm not sure if it was a requirement for us. I read, though. Without the flowers and wine + cheese.

Happy to be carpooling up to Cleveland for the readings with Eric Wasserman. He and I are planning a fall festival & orientation extravaganza for the current and incoming MFA students next year. I tell you, it's going to be off the hook. Here's a pic of Jay R. and Eric W. being bouncers at last week's open mic. Aren't they terrifying?

Two juicy tidbits:

1. I'm getting a kinda big award today. There's $$$ involved. It's from my U, not the po-verse.

2. Barn Owl Review accepted its first poem for issue #2, by solicitation, last week. Our regular reading period begins June 1st, so don't send those gems elsewhere (though we do take sim subs, of course).

I've been waiting for word of Barn Owl's next reading period...

My first writing program was only a year long and the nicest thing was that they invited two of us back the next September to do a reading to welcome the new class.

Congrats on $$$/award!

At Sarah Lawrence we had an end of the year reading for graduates. It was strange, especially because parents were there. It's never good when Mom and Dad get to learn all the details of your "first time" or that "encounter in the parking lot outside the night club" for the first time as they sit in a room with 100 or so strangers. Note: The poems referred above were not written by me or Robert Worthington.

Leslie, be sure to send us a copy of your forthcoming book, so that BOR can review it. Congrats again (and thanks for the congrats).

Jay/Sir Robert: I only have one word for you. Untowards!

Congrats on the review - in a real newspaper and everything! - and on the award!
It's a Mary day :)

Thanks, Mary!

And BOR is now on my list of possible reviewers. Thank you for asking!

Congrats Mary, on the award, the Poets.org recognition, and BOR. I'm kind of weepy today, but it could be my allergies....

Congrats on the big award. I think BOR #2 will be off the hook and I imagine the poem/poet you solicited is quite ecstatic.
