Bad company.

The brand spankin' new issue of The Spoon River Poetry Review just arrived in my mailbox, and holy frijoles, it's a good one. How fun to be rubbing pages with my homegirls Kristy Bowen and Jessi Lee G, not to mention folks like Gabriel Welsch and Frannie Lindsay and Kelli Kaufmann. What a great issue (and volume XXX, too).

Jessi--if you're out there--I think I recall toasting our SRPR acceptances on my front porch last spring or summer. It's nice being in such good company! (Which of course automatically makes me think of Bad Company, and now I fear the jukebox in my brain will be playing their greatest hits all day).

Speaking of Chicago business and bad company, big ups to Dale Barrigar for being one of the finalists in the Miami University Press novella contest for The Valley of the Many-Colored Grass.

On one final Chicago note, Simone Muench passed along the link to a new website: SHARKFORUM: OPINION WITH TEETH. I am very proud of my teeth, so I will definitely be checking that out!

Not to neglect the new hometown, local celtic band The Mickeys are playing at First Night Akron on Saturday (12/31) from 7-9 at the Ocasek Building Atrium. Fun!

Thanks. Now I've got Bad Company going. Specifically "Rock and Roll Fantasy."

Good work on the pub! Looks great!

Hey! How'd you know that I transformed the living room into an authentic British pub this morning? WTF? Is this place bugged?

Mary:

The cure for Bad Comapny songs playing in your head is anything by Cream or the Yardbirds. Eric Clapton will act like a sorbet, cleansing your audio pallet (sp?)
