Petals, wet black boughs, etc.

Look at the petal snow this morning in the parking lot! It finally rained last night, and there were strong winds, and all the petals went a-blowin'. What an apparition! It was nice hearing thunder. I like thunderstorms. We mustn't get many, because Ray totally freaked out, and cried all kinds of big tears. He's scared of stuff, like the big frog sculpture outside the Highland Square library. I was scared of stuff as a kid, too.

It always puzzles me that when I teach "In a Station of the Metro" the students don't know what a bough is. WTF? Do we not use that word any more? Is it just the spelling that's strange?

I need to get used to using my cell phone. When it rings, my heart jumps, like it's an emergency. If it doesn't tell me that it's my BFF, or Eric, or The Colt, or whatnot, I freak even more and don't answer it. And then have to call the bakery back and tell them to make the Curious George cake instead of the Lion King cake, since that one isn't available any more. I've had a cell phone since 1994--you'd think I would be used to it by now.

Going to work from my home office this afternoon. How exotic! Some heavy BOR-reading on the way. I hope my cell phone doesn't scare the hell out of me. Just the thought of it sends chills up my spine.

Working from the office will be a nice change of pace for you. But what about all the distractions? I hope you get lots done.

Thanks, Jay! It'll be tough, because sometimes there are significant distractions in my home office, of various varieties, but I will do my best to remain focused on the tasks at hand.

I will let you know how it goes!

I have a similar phone anxiety. I hate answering the phone. Even if it's someone I'd like to talk to. For some reason I have a hard time mustering up the emotional energy it takes to answer it.

You know what I hate even more than talking on the phone? Paying the damn bill!

Oh! I have the exact same reaction to my cell phone ringing. I also have an allergy to making phone calls. Why can't everyone function via email or even letters...anything that doesn't start singing at me loudly (in public.)

I don't really have to worry about my phone being a pain because no one calls me.

the protagonist in my novel has anxiety disorder and her heart leaps and pounds every time the phone rings- but i suspect that is more common than we realize!
